Cliget for Firefox: Download protected files

Cliget is an add-on for the Firefox web browser that improves the downloading of protected files on remote machines you have control over.

The main idea behind the extension for Firefox is to grab all important download parameters to turn them into a wget, curl or aria2 command.

Maybe you have experienced the following situation before: you checked your web email account, say Gmail, and found an attachment in one of the emails that you want to load on another system (a server for instance or another computer).

Firefox Cross-Extension vulnerability discovered

Nine of the ten most popular Firefox add-ons, based on users, are vulnerable to extension reuse vulnerabilities that allow malicious extensions to leverage these vulnerabilities.

Add-ons are one of the hallmarks of the Firefox web browser. The most popular Firefox add-ons are used by millions of users, and since the extension system in place does not limit add-on developers as much as on other platforms, some add miraculous things to the browser that are not possible elsewhere.

Turn off Lock Screen ads in Windows 10

Microsoft may use the Windows 10 lock screen to display promotions to you at times.

The first, and only as far as I know, promotion that Microsoft ran on the lock screen was a beautiful Rise of the Tomb Raider wallpaper.

Coincidentally, Rise of the Tomb Raider was the first triple AAA title that was offered on Microsoft's Windows Store as an UWP application.

Anyway, while beautiful and something that gamers might have added to their desktop background freely, it is undeniably a promotional image.

Seer: better file previews for Windows

Seer is a free program for the Windows operating system that brings Mac-like file and folder previews to the Windows operating system.

While Windows ships with its own file preview system in Windows Explorer / File Explorer (use Alt-P to toggle it), it is limited to Explorer and not available elsewhere.

You cannot use it for instance to preview a file on your desktop, unless you open Explorer first, navigate to the desktop to do so.

Diskovery storage analyzer for Windows

Diskovery is a brand new storage analyzer for the Windows operating system by the makers of the great Bvckup 2 backup program.

The application is available as a beta version only currently, and only from third-party sites as the official project site has not been published yet.

You can download the program from Download Crew for instance currently. We will update the review once the site goes up, and then again when the program loses its beta status.

Advanced SystemCare Review

Advanced SystemCare Free, Pro and Ultimate are three programs for the Windows operating system designed to manage, optimize and protect PCs.

All programs are compatible with all recent and not so recent versions of the Windows operating system starting with Windows XP.

Advanced SystemCare 9.2 was the version used.

Gamers love Windows 10

Windows 10 replaced the long-standing champion OS for gamers Windows 7 in Valve's Hardware and Software Survey for March 2016 as the most popular operating system.

Steam's Hardware and Software Survey, as the name suggests, is based on information that users who have participated in the survey have provided Valve with. It is therefore not a 100% accurate representation of all systems running Steam but still useful when it comes to hardware and software trends.

A look at Project Centennial

Project Centennial is an upcoming feature of Windows 10 that allows users to run converted desktop programs as UWP apps on PCs running the OS.

If you have followed Microsoft's Build 2016 Developer Conference last wee , you may know already that Microsoft plans to release release a converter that turns desktop programs into Universal Windows Platform apps.

Microsoft demonstrated the conversion of two games during the keynote but did not reveal information about the process at that time.

Switch a Microsoft Account to a Local Account

Find out how to convert a Microsoft Account to a Local Account on a computer system running Microsoft's new operating system Windows 10.

Microsoft Accounts are the default account type on machines running Windows 10. When you set up an account, it is the option that is offered to you first, and when you create new accounts on the system afterwards, the system suggests to sign in to a Microsoft Account or create a new one, before the option to create a local account is presented to you.

SMPlayer Media Player Review

SMPlayer is a free media player for Windows operating systems and Linux that uses the free media engines MPV and MPlayer for playback.

Like most media players nowadays, SMPlayer ships with built-in support for many popular and even lesser known video and audio formats so that it does not rely on installed codecs for playback.

Kaspersky Internet Security Review

Kaspersky Internet Security is a long-standing security program for the Windows operating system by Russian security firm Kaspersky.

The program sits functionality-wise between the company's Anti-Virus and Total Security offerings. From a security point of view, it is offering more security features than Anti-Virus, and the same level of protective features as the more expensive Total Security product.

In addition to offering all features of Kaspersky Anti-Virus, it ships with a firewall, host intrusion prevention system and other security features.

First look at Simplenote for Windows

Simplenote is a popular note taking app for Mac and various mobile operating systems that is now also available for Windows and Linux.

Windows users have quite a few options at their disposal to jot down some notes, from plain text files to sophisticated note taking applications with tagging and markdown support.

Simplenote, as the name suggests, wants to make things simple for the user. Problem is, there are a couple things that make it not as simple as it sounds.
