What's New

Permadelete: remove files securely on Windows PCs

Permadelete is a new open source program for Microsoft Windows devices that you may use to remove files securely from the PC.

The delete operation on Windows does not really do what the majority of users expects it to do. Instead of removing the contents of a file and its reference from the system, delete simply removes the reference but leaves the contents on the disk.

White Noise Baby: monitor crying, play sounds

White Noise Baby is an application for Google Android and Apple iOS devices that provides you with soothing sounds and monitoring options.

The application looks like any other "white noise" application on first glance, but if you dig a bit deeper, you will notice that it offers features that the bulk of apps don't support.

The main idea behind the app is simple: play sounds or classical music to help your baby sleep better. While it is designed with babies in mind, nothing is keeping you from using it for yourself, or other people instead.

Free Manga Downloader review

Free Manga Downloader is an open source program for Microsoft's Windows operating system that enables you to download manga from supported sites.

While you can read manga online on hundreds of sites, you sometimes may want to download them for offline reading.

We reviewed several programs in the past that help you do that. MangaZ, Manga Crawler and DomDomSoft Manga Downloader are but three of the applications that you may use for that purpose.

Win 10 Toggle Tweaker 4.0 review

Win 10 Toggle Tweaker is a batch script that Windows 10 users can run on their devices to modify various settings and features of the operating system.

Since it is offered as a batch file, it is easy enough to verify the program before you run it. Simply open it in any plain text editor, or code editor to get a good look at the code.

Please note that you may need to run the batch file with elevated privileges, and that Windows will display an UAC prompt on start which you have to accept to continue.

Firefox Add-ons Roadmap for 2017

The year 2017 is an important one for Mozilla and Firefox. Multi-process will be enabled for all users of the web browser, sandboxing is introduced, the first bits of Project Quantum are integrated into the web browser, and the add-on system will be switched exclusively to WebExtensions.

Cliqz acquires Ghostery

Cliqz, a German company owned by Burda Media and Mozilla, has acquired the popular anti-tracking tool Ghostery and the Ghostery brand.

We reviewed Ghostery several times here on Ghacks Technology News, the last time in September 2016 when the company behind the product released Ghostery 7 for all supported operating systems.
