WhatsApp users worldwide will receive a prompt over the course of the next few days that moves the application one step closer to its parent company Facebook.

As you know, Facebook acquired WhatsApp back in 2014 for $19 billion. While it pushed one of the most successful messaging products into Facebook's product lineup, many wondered how the company was turning WhatsApp into a profitable product.

WhatsApp subscriptions were thrown out the door in early 2016, and no other form of revenue generation was introduced.

The team behind the messenger Telegram released a new version of the client for Android and iOS yesterday that introduces support for importing chats from the messengers WhatsApp, Line and KakaoTalk.

More than 100 million new users joined Telegram in January 2021 according to the announcement. While Telegram did not reveal where these came from, it is likely that WhatsApp/Facebook privacy changes played a large role in it.

WhatsApp users who open the messaging client on their devices today receive an in-application notification that informs users about its updated terms and privacy policy.

WhatsApp is updating its terms and privacy policy, it reads, and it lists two or three key points and provides links to the terms and privacy policy.

Options to accept the updated terms and privacy policy are provided as well as an option to postpone the decision.

Sometimes you may need to run programs with administrator privileges. Maybe it's required for the program to function, or it fixes an issue, or lets the application run in full-screen mode. The usual method to do this, is to right-click on the executable and select the run as administrator option. You could create shortcuts for these programs, but it will quickly clutter your desktop.

Back in early 2019, a first preview of what the developers called Winamp Community Update Project was released; designed to improve the original Winamp music player through its extensive plugins system, WACUP did fix bugs, added features and updated existing features.

A new preview is now available that introduces another batch of improvements to Winamp. The new release is based on Winamp 5.666, like the previous one.

Microsoft announced the upcoming release of a text prediction service in Word and Outlook last year. Text predictions, as the name suggests, predict words and phrases users are likely to type, and provide options to add these to texts with minimal effort.

Microsoft suggests that predictions help users type faster, and that they may also help reduce spelling and grammar errors.

How many mail accounts do you have in Thunderbird? The more you have, the more cluttered it becomes, doesn't it? And if you have a ton of mails, it's not any easier to manage them.

When you want to find something that you need, you either use the search tool, or take the manual route, i.e., you select the mail and it loads in the message pane at the bottom of the program's interface.

Kids Mode is a new parental control feature in Microsoft's Edge web browser that is currently being tested in Canary versions of the browser on US-English Windows and Mac OS systems.

When you delete files or folders on Windows, they are not deleted right away. Windows has a recycle bin, and it is the place that all deleted files go to by default. You can clear it or use the Shift-key to bypass it whenever you want to delete files and folders right away, but even that does not remove the data from the device at that moment.

LastPass recently announced that it will be limiting cloud-access to one-device per user, so if you were using it to sync your passwords to your phone and computer, you won't be able to do so from March 16th.

Looking for a way to play some good old SNES classics?  Well, you can play them on your computer. All you need is a good emulator, like Snes9x, and a few ROMs, e.g. homebrew ROMs or ROMs of games that you own a copy of physically.

Vivaldi Technologies released Vivaldi 3.6 Stable to the public on January 28, 2021. The new stable version of the Chromium-based browser improves the tab stacking functionality of Vivaldi significantly. We reviewed the feature when it launched in snapshot builds back in December 2020.

Microsoft released microcode updates, designed to protect Windows 10 systems against Spectre-based attacks, for Windows 10 version 1809, Windows 10 version 1903 and 1909, Windows 10 version 2004, 20H2 and 21H1 this week.

The microcode updates for all other Windows 10 versions have not been updated and remain on the November 2020 state.

Microcode updates come in two forms: as firmware updates or as updates for the operating system. The updates address flaws or issues in processors, and are loaded when the system is started.
