What's New

Vivaldi Themes got a whole lot better

Vivaldi launched version 1.2 of the web browser just yesterday but it seems that the team did not waste any time celebrating the new version as the first Vivaldi 1.3 snapshot was just released.

One would not necessarily expect a major feature to ship with the first snapshot released a day after a major release, but it happens occasionally and it definitely happened here.

You better disable update checks in KeePass 2

A security vulnerability in the popular password manager KeePass 2 was disclosed recently affecting all versions of the password manager but only if automatic update checks are enabled.

KeePass 2 ships with an option to check periodically for program updates. While update checks are performed if the feature is enabled, automatic downloads and installations of updates is not supported.

WizTree 2.0 update brings support for all drives

WizTree 2.0 is a new version of the popular storage analysis program for Windows that analyzes drives to display the largest folders and files on those drives.

WizTree has been designed to quickly display which files take up the most storage space on a drive. The initial version of the program, reviewed us back in 2012, was one of the quickest programs when it came to scanning a drive.

The new update, the first in almost three years, improves the program significantly but without removing any of the features or functions that made it great in first place.

Vivaldi 1.2 Browser now available

Vivaldi 1.2 is the latest stable version of the popular web browser that brings along with it editable gestures, clearer download progress, more tab improvements and a truckload of fixes and minor improvements.

Vivaldi has quickly risen to popularity thanks to a development philosophy that focuses on giving users choice when it comes to the browser instead of streamlining it by removing choice or not giving users choice in first place.

Subscribe to Reddit Domain Feeds

One lesser known feature of Reddit is the ability to display all submissions that a domain or site received on Reddit.

I mentioned this option two years ago for the first time and don't want to rehash everything I said in the previous article.

You may have stumbled upon it accidentally by clicking on the domain link next to submissions that lead to external sites as it will display the feed of that domain directly.

How to disable Windows 10 Live Tiles permanently

The following guide walks you through the process of turning off Windows 10 Live Tiles permanently.

I have no use for Live Tiles and explained my reasoning previously here on Ghacks. First, I don't really use many applications as I prefer desktop programs over them for a variety of reasons.

But even for applications that I use, I find live tiles to be a hindrance if not an annoyance rather than something that is beneficial.

I can see them work well on mobile devices but not so much on the desktop.

Upgrading PC components

One of the biggest advantages of desktop PCs is that these systems are open enough to allow you to replace components.

While you may be able to replace some components, a hard drive for instance, in laptops or devices created by companies like Apple or Google, usually, you are very restricted in what you can do with them when it comes to updates.

ImagePrinz easy photo printing

ImagePrinz is a free portable program for the Windows operating system that improves the photo printing process in several ways.

If you have printed photos in the past on sheets of paper you may have noticed how problematic the whole process is.

You have to make sure you got the right paper, and that the photo that you are about to print on the paper is aligned correctly, and that the margins fit the paper as well.

OEM Updaters put PCs at risk

A study by Duo Security, Inc suggests that OEM Updaters, programs designed by PC manufacturers to update vendor-specific software, do more harm than good as they put PCs at risk.

Prebuild desktop computers, laptops and tablets ship with a set of added applications and programs more often than not. Commonly referred to as crapware, these programs add little value to the system and are often comprised of trial versions, shortcuts, and programs created by the manufacturer of the device.
