Fix PCs no longer recognized in network after Windows 10 version 1803 upgrade

Microsoft's Spring Creators Update for Windows 10, version 1803, is not out yet because of a last-minute delay caused by reliability issues that Microsoft detected before the rollout process.

If you run the new version of Windows 10 already, for instance on a PC with an Insider Build installation of the new operating system version, you may have had issues with the detection of PCs and devices in the local area network.

Microsoft explains why it delayed Windows 10 version 1803 release

Microsoft planned to release the Spring Creators Update for Windows 10, Windows 10 version 1803, last Tuesday on the April 2018 Patch Day.

The company decided against the rollout of the new version of Windows 10 in what seemed like a last minute attempt at preventing that a buggy release hit consumer systems worldwide.

Microsoft did not reveal back then why it decided to delay the release of the new version; in fact, the company never confirmed that April 10, 2018 was the day that it planned to release Windows 10 version 1803 to the public.

Oath's privacy policy is a privacy nightmare

If you are an AOL or Yahoo user, then you better take note that Oath, the new Verizon-owned parent company of AOL and Yahoo, has published an updated its privacy policy.

The privacy policy, which you may access here, gives Oath lots of rights to collect, process and share data. Emails and instant messages may be scanned, data may be collected and shared with Verizon or partners.

Enable pre-release features on Windows 10 Insider Builds

Mach2 is a free open source program for Microsoft's Windows 10 operating system that you may run to find and enable pre-release features on Insider Builds of the operating system.

Windows 10 Insider Builds provide access to development features that may make their way into the next feature release of the operating system. Microsoft "hides" some features that it considers not ready yet from these development builds of the operating system.

Microsoft retires Office Mix on May 1, 2018

A notification that Office Mix is retiring on May 1, 2018 is displayed when you open the official Office Mix website right now (I'm writing this in April 2018).

Microsoft made the decision to display a page overlay notification and a banner notification at the top of the page to highlight the news to users of Office Mix.

The overlay reads: "Office Mix is retiring May 1, 2018. Please sign-in to migrate or download your content from the Office Mix site before May 1, 2018 to avoid losing any of your data. For support migration contact us here".

Video Speed Controller for Firefox

Video Speed Controller is a Firefox add-on that adds shortcuts to the web browser that you may activate to control the playback speed of HTML5 videos on sites like YouTube and others.

Sometimes, you may want to slow down or speed up a video playing in the browser. Increasing the speed of a video may be useful if you watch a presentation, tutorial or other content that is slow-paced, and decreasing the speed may be useful if you want to look at a scene or video in detail.

Back to Basics Part 6 -- Using the ip command in GNU/Linux for beginners

For years, people used the ifconfig tool to handle their command line IP / network interface related tasks.

However, ifconfig is long dead, and has since been replaced with the IP tool, although it will take users some time to make the total switch, as ip is considerably more powerful than ifconfig was.

This tutorial is geared to users who are not quite absolute CLI beginners, but are ready to start getting their toes wet when dealing with networking and interfaces.

Why I'm using multiple web browsers

I get asked frequently about the web browser that I use and I usually answer that I use them all. While that is a bit exaggerated, there is some truth to that. Let me explain.

I work with multiple web browsers throughout the day. I used to do all things in the Firefox browser using profiles, but switched to using multiple web browsers instead.

Here is my setup: I have Firefox Stable and Nightly, Opera, Vivaldi, Google Chrome Stable and Canary, Chromium, Pale Moon, Waterfox, Internet Explorer and Microsoft Edge on my system.
