Turn off the Windows Customer Experience program

Microsoft introduced the Windows Customer Experience Improvement Program in Windows Vista, and has made it a part of any version of Windows since.

Designed to collect information about hardware and how software and services are used, it is used by Microsoft to identify trends and usage patterns.

Microsoft states that personal identifiable information such as names or addresses are not collected.

NET Framework 4.6.2 released

Microsoft released the .NET Framework 4.6.2 yesterday for most supported versions of Microsoft Windows featuring "dozens of bug fixes and improvements".

Microsoft ships version 4.6.2 of the NET Framework with Windows 10's Anniversary Update meaning that it does not need to be installed separately on systems running the latest version of Windows 10.

Attention: Some Fosshub downloads compromised

Some software programs on Fosshub, a free project hosting service, appear to be compromised and serve malware payloads .

Fosshub is a popular file hosting service that software projects such as Classic Shell, qBittorrent, Audacity, MKVToolNix, and others use as their primary file download service.

Basically, what these projects do is link either directly to download files hosted by Fosshub, or link to a download page for their programs on Fosshub.

Microsoft Account Credentials Leak vulnerability

What would you say if I told you that an almost two decade old vulnerability in Windows may leak your Microsoft Account credentials when you visit a website, read an email, or use VPN over IPSec?

A bug, that goes all the way back to Windows 95 is causing major issues on Windows 8 and Windows 10.

Basically, what happens is the following: Microsoft Edge, Internet Explorer, Outlook and other Microsoft products allow connections to local network shares. What the default settings don't prevent on top of that is connections to remote shares.

Google to display new device sign-ins on Android

Google announced yesterday that Android users will receive notifications when sign-ins from new devices are recognized directly on their Android devices.

Up until now, Google used email messages to inform users about new sign-ins. These messages are sent out when a sign-in are successful on devices that are unknown to the company (read not yet associated with the Google account).

Firefox 48 Release: Find out what is new

Firefox 48 Stable will be released on August 2, 2016 according to the Firefox release schedule. Firefox 48 is a major release that makes add-on signing mandatory on Stable and Beta versions of the browser, and introduces multi-process functionality to the first batch of users (who don't run any add-ons).

Firefox 47.0.1 and earlier versions can be updated to Firefox 48. Additionally, updates for Firefox Beta, Developer, Nightly and Firefox ESR are released on August 2, 2016 as well.
