WebCatalog: install and run web apps natively

WebCatalog is a free cross-platform desktop program that allows you to install and run web applications natively on the device.

Depending on how you use your computers and the Internet, much of your digital life may happen already on the Web and no longer on your devices.

You may run email, chat, file hosting, media and other services in your browser of choice, and no longer as desktop programs.

Windows 10: turn off ads in File Explorer

Microsoft's Windows 10 operating system differs in several regards from previous versions. It is the last version of Windows according to Microsoft, was offered as a free upgrade to existing license holders, and its core powers not only desktop PCs but also the company's Xbox, mobiles, and other devices.

Advertisement in Windows is not an entirely new concept, but it is being pushed in Windows 10 like never before.

Opera Developer 45 with WhatsApp Messenger integration

Opera Software continues its work on project reborn, a redesign of the Opera web browser that is less platform-specific, and more modern.

One of the main features of Opera Developer 44, the first version of the browser that shipped with first bits of the new design, was integration of Facebook Messenger directly in the web browser.

Samsung Internet browser for Android

Samsung Internet is a new web browser for Google Android devices that Samsung released as a beta preview version today to the Google Play store.

You can download and install the web browser on Android devices running version 5.0 or higher. The browser is not limited to Samsung's own line of devices, but should install fine on the majority of Android devices. It did install fine on a Xiaomi Mi 4c for instance.

Samsung notes however that only Samsung Galaxy and Google Nexus phones are officially supported by the Internet browser.

Firefox 52.0 released: find out what is new

Mozilla Firefox 52.0 Stable was released on March 7, 2017 to the public through the web browser's automatic update functionality, and on Mozilla's website.

Note: Firefox 52.0 is being rolled out on March 7, 2017. The release is already on Mozilla's FTP server, but may not be yet available through automatic updating. All Firefox users and interested Internet users will have access to the release at the end of the day.

Firefox’s new WebExtensions permission system

Mozilla plans to turn on a permissions system for the installation of WebExtensions in the Firefox web browser that is similar to that of Google Chrome.

Whenever you install an extension in Google Chrome, all of the extra permissions that the extension requests are listed in the installation prompt.

The idea is to provide users with information on these extra permissions, so that abusive extensions can be avoided.

NoScript 5.0 add-on for Firefox released

NoScript 5.0, a popular script blocker (and more) for Firefox has just been released to the public after two release candidate build releases.

NoScript is the main reason why I'm still using Firefox as my main web browser, and not another browser.

The browser add-on is a script blocker first and foremost. It blocks any script from running on sites you visit, unless you whitelist them.
