Xbox insiders can now stream their owned console games on the Xbox PC App

The Xbox Pc app now lets you stream your Xbox console games. But you will need a Game Pass Ultimate subscription to access the streaming options.

Xbox Cloud Gaming isn't new per se, it has been available on Xbox Series S/X, and Xbox One consoles, TVs, Meta Quest, browsers on PCs, smartphones, tablets. It allows you to play games from your Xbox console library, on your computer without installing the game. It is a nice option to have if you have an old computer, or one that doesn't have a good graphics card.

Xbox Cloud Gaming (Beta) is not available worldwide, it is only supported in 28 Countries, refer to this page for more details. You will need to opt into the Xbox Insiders Program by downloading the Xbox Insider Hub on your PC, to access the cloud streaming options.

Open the Cloud Gaming section in the app, and you should see a section called Stream your own game. Select the game that you want to play, and that's it. The announcement says that over 250 games are supported. Here's a list of all Xbox games that you can buy and stream. It includes games like Baldur's Gate 3, Cyberpunk 2077, Civilization VII to name a few. Microsoft says it will add more games, including console-only games, Xbox Play Anywhere games, to the catalog in the future.

So, why do you need Xbox Game Pass Ultimate to play the games that you already own on Xbox? I guess it's sort of a fee for using the servers. But the subscription isn't primarily for cloud streaming games, its main purpose is to give people an affordable way to play the latest games. I wouldn't be surprised if Xbox Cloud Gaming becomes a separate subscription once it is out of beta. It might be useful on Xbox handhelds too.
