Recall WiFi: free Windows tool reveals wireless passwords and gives security rating

When you use a Windows laptop, you have probably connected it to several wireless networks in the past. At home or work, at the coffee shop, airport, during a train commute, or elsewhere. This usually means signing in to wireless networks that often require passwords, and sometimes troubleshooting WiFi connection issues.

Recall WiFi is a free tool for Windows that reveals the wireless networks that you connected your device to in the past. It furthermore provides a rating of the security of each wireless network and may show the password used to connect to each as well.

All you need to do is run the tool. It lists known wireless networks that the device was connected to in its interface on start.

Recall Wifi

Each network is listed with its name, security settings, authentication type, security analysis, and signal strength. The latter should be 0 percent for most networks in most cases.

As you can see from the screenshot above, it is the security settings, authentication type, and security analysis that provide useful information.

Right-click on any listed wireless network and select "network information" from the context menu to reveal the password that is stored on the Windows machine.

WiFi Security Analysis

You may save the information or look up additional details by selecting "detailed security analysis" from the context menu. It reveals the security score as well as issues, strengths and a recommendation.

You may also import and export networks and information using the top menu.

So, what can you use Recall WiFi for?

  1. Reveal a password for a particular network that you forgot. May be useful if you want to connect another device to the wireless network.
  2. Harden the security of routers and access points that you have control over, if the security analysis highlighted weaknesses.

Closing Words

Reveal WiFi is a useful tool for Windows that is useful to reveal passwords of wireless networks that you connected a device to in the past, and to check the security of wireless access points.

It is lightweight, does not need to be installed, and should run on all recent versions of the Windows operating system.
