TV streaming website WiZiWiG shuts down: alternatives

The shutdown of the popular MyP2P.eu website, a popular destination for live and free sports streaming on the Internet, resulted in the creation of WiZiWiG which offered similar services.

It was not the only site that offered lists of events and links to stream those events but became a popular destination quickly.

The makers of WiZiWiG have just announced that they have shut down the site effective immediately.

Law changes in Spain, the country the site was hosted in, are given by the operators of the service.

According to the information posted on the frontpage of the service, these new laws force site operators in Spain to follow DCMA policies in a stricter sense and failure to comply could result in large fines.

In addition to that they state, that Spain is working on new criminal justice laws that could punish owners of websites with up to six years of jail time.

While WiZiWiG seems to be a thing of the past as of today, the makers of the site decided to advertise a relatively new site on the frontpage.

GetYourFixtures.com is that site. The site lists live events and fixtures on the start page including TV stations and official streams for it. It appears from the wording that this is more of an advertisement than a project that the WiZiWiG team is involved in.

Considering that Get Your Fixtures is only listing TV stations and official streams, it is unlikely that many users of WiZiWiG will find it appealing.

Still, it offers an interesting service that could appeal to some.

It is unclear yet if the original site will return in one form or the other at a later point in time. If it is only about hosting, one has to wonder why the makers did not just move to a hosting company not situated in Spain.

This would only be a solution on the other hand if the operators are not residents of Spain, as they would fall under Spanish law then regardless of where the site is hosted.

As far as alternatives are concerned, here is a short list of services that you may want to try:

  • Live TV - A Russian service that supports several interface languages. One of the most comprehensive sites currently.
  • Rojadirecta - Offers a large index of streams.
  • Sport P2P - Sorted by countries and leagues, lots of matches.
  • Stream 2 Watch - Clean design, solid number of events and matches.
