BitTorrent Sync 2.0, Pro version, and two other products announced
While cloud services like Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive are immensely popular, there is also a market for individuals and companies who don't want data to be stored on third-party servers.
BitTorrent Sync, originally launched back in 2013, is one of the tools that offers file synchronization without servers. That is just one of the advantages of the technology. There is no need for accounts for example and storage is only limited by local storage capacities and not by plans you subscribe to.
BitTorrent Sync 2.0 was announced earlier today by BitTorrent Inc. and along with it three new products.
The company will make available a Pro version of BitTorrent Sync 2.0 in early 2015 that offers all the features of the free edition and additional features on top of that.
Four core differences have been mentioned today:
- Pro users will get better control over folder permissions and ownership. This provides them with options to set individual permissions for peers, something that is not possible currently.
- Move from a device-centric view to a user-centric view. It is not clear yet how that is achieved though since BitTorrent sync does not use accounts.
- Option to sync all or only select files. While all files are displayed, files that are not on the local device are highlighted. This can be useful to transfer and store only required files and not files that are not needed. It means that the contents of a large shared folder can now be browsed as well regardless of the size of that folder and the local storage options.
- Premium support.
BitTorrent Sync Pro will be available for $39.99 per year per user. This means that users can synchronize files between all their devices using the software.

Sync 1.4
The company announced two additional products based on Sync technology today. File Replication has been designed for Enterprises and large IT environments.
The main idea behind the product is to give IT administrators a tool at hand to deploy, manage, monitor and scale Sync operations.
A mobile to mobile Sync will be made available as a separate app for Android, iOS and Windows Phone. It allows mobile phone users to move files of any size between mobile devices regardless of the mobile operating system they are running.
The company plans to launch Sync 2.0 Free Edition and Sync 2.0 Pro in the beginning of 2015. The File Replication version and the mobile to mobile application will be launched afterwards with no release targets mentioned yet.
Interested users can sign up for a mailing list on the site to receive notifications when the products launch.
And BitTorrent Sync 2.0 Free Edition? Nothing major has been announced yet for that version but it will receive performance improvements, bug fixes and improvements to sharing and synchronizing folders.
