LibreOffice is probably the most popular alternative to Microsoft Office, and comes preinstalled on many GNU/Linux distributions, however, it's also available for nearly every major free and non-free OS out there...And it seems that they are looking for a new Mascot!
Install only the driver for Nvidia graphics cards
When it comes to drivers for Nvidia graphics cards, most computer users probably either use the drivers that are included with their operating system, or install a driver package for the card from Nvidia.
These driver package has grown over the years. It includes the driver that is required, and then other components that may or may not be required depending on how the computer is used.
PhotoBucket now charges $399 for third-party hosted images
If you have visited a website recently that displays images hosted on Photobucket, or are embedding images hosted on Photobucket on your own, you may have had a rather rude awakening one day as Photobucket decided to block these images from being displayed on third-party sites.
All Photobucket images hosted on third-party sites, at least from what we can tell, are replaced by a dummy image. It reads: Please update your account to enable 3rd party hosting. For important info, please go to www.photobucket.com/P500.
HamMultiPlayer: play multiple videos at the same time
HamMultiPlayer is a free software program for Microsoft Windows computer systems that lets you to play multiple videos at the same time.
The application uses mplayer and the MediaInfo library for that which means that it can play most video files out of the box. It is compatible with all 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows from Windows XP to Windows 10, and is a portable program that you can run from any location on a Windows machine.
The program's has been designed for several tasks, including previewing videos, managing them, and watching multiple videos at once.
Microsoft testing new update targeting framework
Microsoft announced this week that it is testing a new update targeting framework for the upcoming Windows 10 Fall Creators Update release.
When Microsoft releases feature updates to Windows 10, these are delivered as staged roll outs and not pushed instantly to the whole Windows machine population.
Bping is Ping with Sound
BPing -- pronounced beeping -- is a free command line program for Windows that works like the ping command, but with sound added to it.
The author created the program for situations where he had to crawl under desks to connect network cables while running ping operations to verify connectivity.
Instead of having to check the display of the computer to find out about that, he'd simply listen as Bping plays a sound whenever it gets a response. That's however only one of the features that the command line tool offers.
Nintendo missed an opportunity with the SNES Classic
Nintendo announced the Super Nintendo Entertainment System SNES Classic some days ago which will come out in September 2017 worldwide. The device comes in three variants for the US, EU and Japanese market, includes 21 classic games, two controllers, and a HDMI cable.
The games are mostly identical, but there are some differences between the US/EU game lineup and the Japanese one, and the AC adapter which is only part of the US package but not the EU or Japanese one.
Windows Defender Antivirus: Controlled Folder Access
Controlled Folder Access is a new feature of Windows Defender Antivirus that is currently being tested on the most recent Windows 10 Insider Builds.
If things go well, it will be one of the new features of Windows 10 Fall Creators Update upgrade that is out later this year.
The main idea behind Controlled Folder Access is to protect certain folders and the files they contain from unauthorized access. Think of it as a layer of protection against manipulation of files that are stored in protected folders.

Google Photos new Share Your Library feature is currently being rolled out to Google Photos on the Web and mobile devices.
Share Your Library is a new feature of Google Photos that Google revealed earlier this year during the Google I/O conference. It is designed to give users of Google Photos an option to share part of their photo library with another person automatically.
Dropbox’s new Security Checkup Tool
Dropbox released a Security Checkup Tool for all customers yesterday that users of the service may use to verify security related account settings.
Designed to improve security, it walks you through a series of verification steps. These are not new, but they have been scattered around on the Dropbox website so far.
