Firefox 40: Find out what is new
Firefox 40 will be released to the stable channel on August 11, 2015 if things go as planned. There is always the chance of delays caused by last minute bug.
The release has just been posted to the official archive website -- Mozilla moved all data from the ftp server it maintained previously to it -- and it is likely that third-party download portals will offer it before the official release date.
How to change the default Microsoft Edge download location
One of the core shortcomings of Microsoft Edge, the new default browser that ships with Windows 10, is that it lacks customization options.
While it ships with some, most are either difficult to change or missing. If you want to change the default download folder for instance, you will notice that this is not possible from within the browser itself.
There is simply no option included in the settings to do so. Windows 10 itself offers two options to change the default download folder of Microsoft Edge on the system.
Dreamify: transform photos using Google’s Deep Dream algorithm
Dreamify is a free Android application that transforms photos or images on the device into art. Google revealed Deep Dream, a neural networks research project, back in June 2015, and an unforeseen side effect of that was huge interest in the generated images.
Latest 7-Zip Beta ships with RAR5 support
I have used 7-zip in the past to create and unpack archives. It offered everything I needed in a program of its kind: it was lightweight, fast, integrated well with the system and did not get in my way when I did not need it.
The slow pace of development, and here specifically the fact that newer formats such as RAR5 were not supported by 7-Zip, made me look for alternatives.

AIMP is a popular audio player for the Windows operating system that ships with an impressive feature set and a plugin system to extend its functionality further.
The developers of the music player are working on the current stable version of the client and the next major version of it at the same time.
AIMP 4, currently available as a first beta release, ships with a new user interface that moves it away from looking like another Winamp clone on first sight.
Mozilla changes Firefox Live Search Suggestions to Opt-In
Mozilla added a live search suggestions feature to Firefox 41 in June. The cutting edge Nightly version of Firefox was the first to receive live search suggestions which displayed suggestions based on the query if no or too few bookmarks, history and open tabs entries were available to fill the list of suggestions.
Firefox used to display only those by default previously and while that worked well usually, it sometimes resulted in a lack of items when users started to type in the browser's address bar.
VLC Media Player for Windows updated
VLC Media Player is one of the most popular all-in-one players for Windows. It is available as a desktop program but also as an app in Windows Store on Windows 8.1 and newer.
VideoLAN, the organization behind the media player, has pushed out an update recently for the Windows 10 version of the player that introduces a new user interface.
Windows 10 Home users get automatic app update as well
We have talked in length about Windows 10's mandatory updating system here on ComTek4u and why we recommend the Pro version of the operating system because of it as it provides users with a certain level of control over the update process.
Home users on the other hand don't get the same level of control which is a sharp contrast to how it was on previous versions of the Windows operating system.
Privacy Badger 1.0 ships with super-cookie and fingerprinting detection
Privacy Badger launched more than a year ago as a browser extension for Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome to inform users about online tracking and with options to block certain trackers from doing their work.
The EFF has released an update to Privacy Badger today which improves the extension further. Available for both Firefox and Chrome, it ships not only with new functionality but also interface improvements and new languages.
